A huge range – First things first, you will be confronted with a huge range of vehicles and options. There will cars available across a range of makes and models. Within that, there will be four or five different engine options. You need to narrow down your search before you even set foot in the dealer. Take your time to browse sites like cardealwarehouse.co.uk and narrow down your list of choices. Stay within your budget and figure out exactly what engine performance you need. You’ll be overwhelmed if you don’t stock up on knowledge first!

Test drive – If you express interest in a car, you’ll be offered a test drive. Bear in mind, a test drive is a precursor to the hard sell. So only get behind the wheel of the cars you’re actually interested in. Take your time on the test drive, don’t feel pressured by the dealer. The best drives are about an hour long so you can test it on all roads. Get onto the motorway, take it into the city and see how it responds. Some dealers offer overnight test drives. If this is an option, take it.

The hard sell – You will, of course, get the hard sell. Remember, they want to sell you the car as much as you want to buy it! The trick here is to be friendly, but firm. Use your knowledge to show confidence and stick to your ground. Before you go to the dealer, set yourself a firm budget and stick to it. Decide on any optional extras before you try the car too. Most of all, research finance plans before you go and don’t get sucked into credit you can’t afford.

Haggling – This is the part that many car buyers fear the most. You don’t have to haggle, the car dealer is not an Egyptian market! However, we do recommend trying a little negotiation. More often than not, the dealer will be prepared to meet you halfway to make the sale. It can’t hurt to ask, right?

There you have it, folks. That wasn’t too scary, was it? Load yourself up with knowledge and research. Know your boundaries and stick to it. You’ll have the perfect new car in no time!
